The family cabin blog

Here are pictures after Porch re-do painting and porch roof papered – all completed on August 3rd, 2019.

This past week Ty and Papa began a project… and when I say project, I mean project with a capital “P”. There were logs and beams and power tools galore. Bobby took the logs up the first day, and Jennifer Ann and the girls also went up the first weekend. They striped the roof off of the porch and began to dismantle the sagging beams and planks of the roof and floor. According to Ty, the swamp pit below the floor of the porch was a sight to behold.

Needless to say, Papa and Ty did an amazing job prepping and starting the new porch. By the time Nana and I arrived the following Wednesday eve (in the thick fog – another story), the new porch was well under way.

I helped on Thursday with the larger logs to support the front roof beam, as well as the 8 inch logs that will make the front railing. Papa says he wants it to reflect more of the original porch style when it was built in 1935-36.

I worked muscle groups I had long forgotten about. Sheesh.
Did the project get finished this week? No. But that is not the point. The time with family and the accomplishments we had were amazing. It is a blessing to watch and be part of.

On Tuesday July 2nd I took Papa up to Bighorn Reservoir. He hadn’t been there in quite some time. We walked out above the outlet pipe for great Verizon service. No AT&T service – lucky for me. Here is a photo.

On the way back we ran into some elk crossing the road.
